Our group
The membership is composed of people of different ages, with various backgrounds and interests,
all with their own distinctive style of writing.
From the original membership, some have moved out of the area, some have moved on to study creative
writing at University, some have left for rather sad, personal reasons and some have just decided they no longer need the
support of the group in order to continue with their writing.
This does not mean that the group has shrunk in size, as new members are joining all the time,
but from that original membership, there remains a steady nucleus of keen and talented writers, who keep the group vibrant
and fresh; ready to welcome newcomers and to support and assist them in honing their skill as writers. Our aim is to provide
workshops and writing opportunities, to suggest possible ways of getting published and to help them overcome the usual reticence
about reading aloud, in order to become competent at ‘showcasing’ their written work.
The group also has a strong social inclination. Our meetings are not solemn earnest affairs,
but are occasions of entertainment and enjoyment. Visiting speakers, who we invite from time to time, to give advice, information
and tuition, often tell us how enjoyable they have found the experience of joining our group for an evening.
On a practical note, the group meet on the second Tuesday in each month at the Methodist Hall
in Lowdham.
People may join the group by coming to a meeting, applying for membership and paying a membership
fee, currently £15 per annum.
In addition, people who may wish to come to occasional meetings without becoming members of
the group, may do so on payment of a small fee.
